Latest Updates

Last week Casey went in for her pulmonary follow up. The appointment went well. Casey was really good and her doctor was happy with how she is doing. He ordered a new culture that we had to have sent to us so while Casey's nurse is here this week we will get it done. Based on the results of the new culture she may or may not have to do another round of Tobi (a special breathing treatment she was on for about a month about a month ago). We did get some sad news while we were at the clinic. We absolutely love this doctor and he told us that he is moving to another position where he will no longer be seeing patients. We are very sad to hear this. I am sure it is a good move for him, but we will miss him. He works with a team of doctors that all take the same approach and have similar bedside manner. I am sure we will be fine with one of his colleagues. The only good thing is that one of them sees patients once a week at a clinic closer to home. The same clinic where most of Casey's other doctors are located as well. This will make the trip a little easier. Her next appointment will be at the closer clinic with the new doctor in November.

Casey has had a little tummy ache the past couple of days. She has been throwing up a little and really fussy. Today my grandparents had invited the family over to celebrate my grandpa's birthday. We were not sure if Casey would be up for it or not until last minute this morning. She had a much better morning today than she had in the past few so we decided she could make the party. It was nice to visit with everyone. It is so hard on Casey to make trips, even short ones like this. She just hates the car so much and has such a hard time adjusting to other settings. She finally did relax after we were there for a little while. We sat with her and rocked for a while and she went to sleep. She spent the first half of the visit upset, then slept through the other half. Poor baby, she works so hard. She has been crashed on the couch since we returned home.

Next Saturday one of Casey's little friends is coming over for a morning play date. I am sure they will have a good time. Casey was invited to a party that afternoon at Easter Seals. Easter Seals is having an Autumn party Saturday then later this month they are having a Halloween costume party. The autumn party is for all of the clients (young and old) and is expected to be pretty crowded. I think we will skip this party and just do the costume party later. The costume party is just the kidos and should be a little easier on Casey.

I think that is about it for now. Casey does not have any doctor appointments or other big items for a few weeks. It will be nice to just relax for a few weeks. As always we hope everyone is doing well.

Flower Fariy

Laura was here today so we decided to take Casey shopping and let her pick out a Halloween costume. We went to Old Navy first but they didn't have much. She did not respond to any of them at all. She liked some tee shirts, but none of the costumes. Just down the street (on the way home) there is a huge Halloween Super Store that we ran into. At first she did not respond much at all. We ended up kneeling down and holding her level with all of them and she finally decided on 2 different fairy princess dresses. We gave her a few minutes and she decided on the blue flower fairy. On the way home she was so tired from all the hard shopping that she crashed before we even got on the highway. She slept the entire way home. Shopping is so exhausting.

She has a pulmonary appointment on Monday. It is just a follow up, nothing crazy. We are going to just relax this weekend. Unless we get another surprise visitor :)

I have finally heard from my friend near Houston. They were out of power (like everyone else) until last night. My mom said that power is back on at their house too. Now its all about clean up and repairs/replaces.

As always, we hope everyone is doing well.

Surprise!

So Saturday we were all sitting around being bums when the phone rang. After Tim got off he told us that his mom was on the phone and she is in town. While everyone else was fleeing Texas due to Ike Theresa came in for a quick visit. Ike left Austin pretty much untouched so she actually picked a perfect time to come. The flights were not full or anything. Casey was being really good while she was here so they got to hang out for a bit. It was a really nice surprise. I did not have the camera out so we do not have any pictures to post. Tim took a couple with his mom's camera, but none on ours. She came over Saturday afternoon and had to head back early this morning. Hopefully next time (here or there) we will have more time.

I am guessing everyone is expecting Ike updates. I am very happy to say that Ike did not affect Austin much at all. We had a very small shower this morning and that was about it. Sadly, Ike did affect a lot of the Houston and Galveston area. I have not heard from my friends north of Houston, but I have talked to my mom. My mom and John live in a neighborhood that was on the line of forced and voluntary evacuations. The rest of their county was forced out. After securing as much of the house and boats as possible John did finally head inland to stay with his son. My mom was in Aruba for work. She tried to get home to help take care of things bit no flights were coming in at all.

When I spoke with my mom yesterday she said that pretty much everyone is without power and water. No one is able to get back to their houses yet either. Hopefully sometime today or tomorrow John can get back to the house and start putting things back together. Until then we have no idea if they were spared or if they will have to deal with some damages. We will be keeping our fingers crossed that the affect is minimal.

This week is not too crazy. Casey has her usual therapies, but no appointments. Her nurse is here on Thursday. I think we are going to take Casey and let her pick a Halloween costume while her nurse is here. Since Casey is so good at picking out her clothes each day I think she will have fun picking out a costume.

We hope everyone is doing well. I will try to post pictures and more updates soon.
